FORTH WORTH, Texas - The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated by Texas Christian University (TCU), 75-62, on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas as part of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. The Friars fell to 5-3 on the season. Sophomores Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) and Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) each recorded a game-high 17 points. Freshman Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) chipped in with 13 points.
FIRST HALF:
- Clifton Moore (Ambler, Pa.) scored the Friars' first basket at the 17:14 mark. After an 11-2 start by TCU, the Friars took an early timeout.
- For the second consecutive game, Pierre brought an immediate spark off the bench. The Friars went on a quick 8-1 run after the timeout, which included four points from Pierre. PC trailed 12-10.
- Midway through the first half, the Friars endured a five-minute scoring drought. At the 9:16 mark, Carter ended the drought from the free throw line.
- With less than eight minutes left in the half, Ed Croswell (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit down to one point, 20-19.
- Hopkins gave the Friars their first lead of the game with a three-ball at the 6:47 mark.
- Heading into the last four minutes of the half, the Friars were on a 6-0 run and had made six of their last seven attempts from the field. PC led 28-25.
- The Horned Frogs held a five-point advantage, 38-33, heading into the locker room.
- Providence shot 11-21 (52.4%) from the field, 2-6 (33.3%) from three and 9-14 (64.3%) from the free throw line.
- TCU shot 15-29 (51.7%) from the field, 4-7 (57.1%) from three and 4-6 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF:
- Providence struggled offensively to start the second half, while TCU extended their lead to double digits. The Friars missed their first eight shots of the half.
- The Horned Frogs outscored the Friars 13-2 to open the half.
- Over six minutes passed before the Friars made a field goal. Pierre made a layup to end the cold streak at the 13:44 mark. TCU led 51-37.
- With 7:47 remaining, TCU's Chuck O'Bannon drained a three-pointer, giving the Horned Frogs a commanding 18 point lead. Carter responded by completing an and-one opportunity for the Friars on the next possession.
- Hopkins scored three consecutive baskets ahead of the final media timeout. The Friars narrowed the gap to 12 points, 71-59.
- Pierre brought the deficit back to single digits with a three-pointer at the 1:39 mark. The Friars' defense had held TCU scoreless for over four minutes.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence finished 22-53 (41.5%) from the field, 4-18 (22.2%) from three and 14-24 (58.3%) from the free throw line.
- TCU finished 28-56 (50.0%) from the field, 6-12 (50.0%) from three and 13-16 (81.3%) from the free throw line.
- Three players finished in double figures for the Friars, in Carter (17), Hopkins (17), and Pierre (13).
- The Friars turned the ball over 18 times in the game (season high).
- Rafael Castro (Dover, N.J.) hauled in a team-high seven boards for the Friars.
- Eddie Lampkin led the way for the Horned Frogs with a double-double, 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Five players finished in double figures for TCU.
- The Friars played their first true road game of the season tonight.
- The Friars are 3-1 all-time in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, with victories against Texas (2019) and Texas Tech (2021) in Providence and TCU in Fort Worth (2020).
- The Friars are 0-2 this season vs. Power 5 teams with losses to Miami (ACC) and TCU (Big 12).
- The Friars have posted a 15-26 mark all-time versus teams from the Big 12.

- The Friars will face intra-state rival University of Rhode Island on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
- Providence holds a 75-56 all-time record versus URI, including a 31-31 mark in Kingston. Last season, the Friars earned a 66-52 home victory on Dec. 4, 2021.
