PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's hockey program has announced that future student-athletes Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.), Braiden Clark (Upper Arlington, Ohio), Aleksi Kivioja (Helsinki, Finland) and Chris Romaine (Boston, Mass.) have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College. All four student-athletes are currently playing junior hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Adams ('05) is a 5-foot-11-inch, 184-pound forward currently playing with Tri-City of the USHL where he has posted three goals and six assists for nine points in the first 13 games of the season. In 62 games with the Storm in 2021-22, he tallied 12 goals and 20 assists with a +21 rating. Prior to Tri-City, Adams played the 2020-21 season at Mount St. Charles Academy (R.I.) where he totaled 19 goals and 29 assists in 29 games played. He also has appeared on the international stage, participating in the 2021 Five Nations Tournament and 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. On Nov. 16, Adams was named to the U.S. Junior Select Team that will participate in the 2022 World Junior A Challenge from Dec. 11-18. He has been given a "B" rating (2
nd/3
rd round candidate) on the NHL Central Scouting Watch List in advance of the 2023 NHL Draft.
Clark ('05) is a 5-foot-11-inch, 203-pound forward currently playing for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. In seven games this season, he has posted two assists. He scored two goals and added an assist in 13 games with the Phantoms during the 2021-22 season. Prior to his USHL career, Clark played four seasons in the Ohio Blue Jackets program. In 2021-22, he totaled 17 goals and 22 assists in 47 games with the Blue Jackets U16 squad last season. Clark's father, Chris, was drafted by the Calgary Flames (1994, Rd. 3, #77), played 11 NHL seasons (607 games) with the Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets and is currently the Director of Player Personnel for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was recently named as General Manager of the 2023 U.S. Men's National Team.
Kivioja ('03) is a 6-foot-4-inch, 205-pound forward currently playing for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL where he has registered two goals and two assists in 15 games played in his first season playing hockey in North America. Prior to Omaha, Kivioja served as an alternate captain with Kiekko-Espoo of the U20 SM-sarja where he recorded eight goals and 11 assists in 41 games. Kivioja also appeared in games with the Kiekko-Espoo U20 and U18 teams during the 2020-21 season.
Romaine ('04) is a 6-foot, 197-pound defenseman also playing for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. He made his season debut on Nov. 11 and has appeared in three games thus far in 2022-23. Romaine was selected in the sixth round (193
rd overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2022 NHL Draft. Prior to Omaha, he played prep school at Milton Academy (Mass.) where he posted nine goals and 13 assists in 18 games during the 2021-22 season. Romaine also has played for the South Shore Kings U18 and the Cape Cod Whalers U16 and U15 squads. Romaine's father, Mark, was a goaltender at Providence College from 1986-90 and played three seasons professionally in the AHL and ECHL.
