PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Head Coach
Margot Royer-Johnson announced that four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Providence College beginning the fall of 2023 and compete as members of the Friars' volleyball program.
"Coach Gomes and I could not be happier with this class. Each of them will play a big part in getting us to the next level," said Royer-Johnson. "We are especially excited that all four of these talented young women will be playing together in club season for MadFrog their senior year, this will help them improve and gel even more with each other and our current players."
Lyric Berry is a 6'1" middle blocker from Wylie, Texas. Berry plays for Bishop Lynch High School where she is the varsity captain at Bishop Lynch and has had 1,000 high school-career kills. Berry has played for the Madfrog club volleyball program and will continue to do so this year on the Madfrog 18 Green Team. Berry represented the North Texas region at the USAV All-Star Challenge in Tulsa, Okla. in 2022.
"Lyric is a beast at the net," said Royer-Johnson, "she is one of the best blockers we have seen at her age and her approach and attack are both fast and intimidating. We can't wait to see her affect the Big East!"
Macy Taylor is a 5'10" outside hitter from Rowlett, Texas. Taylor attends Sachse High School where she has been a four-year starter and helped her team to four-straight district championships, two quarterfinal playoff appearances, and two semifinal appearances. She finished her high school career with over 1,000 kills and digs (1,147 kills and 1,157 digs), becoming the third player in Sachse High School history with those accomplishments. Additionally, Taylor played club volleyball for Skyline last season and will play for the Madfrog 18 Green team this year.
"Macy is an all-around volleyball player," said Royer-Johnson, "she passes well and sees the court well while attacking. She is super competitive and will help us both offensively and defensively right away."
Miller McDonald is a 5'8" setter from Dallas, Texas. McDonald attends Lake Highlands High School where she has been a four-time Varsity MVP. In 2021, McDonald was the District MVP and three-time District Setter of the Year. The setter has notched over 3,000 career-assists in high school. Additionally, McDonald will continue her career with the Madfrog program on the 18 Green team this year. McDonald was selected to the AVCA All-America Best and Brightest First Team and is a five-time USAV Girls National Championships Open Medalist (2017 National Champion). She is also a two-time AVCA Phenom Watchlist Selection and ranked as the No. 2 setter and 10
th overall prospect in Texas by PrepDig Texas.
"Miller will make an immediate impact for us as she is ready to lead at this level and has the skills and knowledge to help us get to the next level," said Royer-Johnson, "her defense and serve make her even more deadly."
Savannah Ivie is a 5'8" libero from Frisco, Texas. Ivie attends Wakeland High School where she reached the 1,000-dig milestone. Additionally, Ivie will continue her career with the Madfrog program, playing on the 18 Green team this year. Ivie received THSCA Academic All-State Honorable Mention. She was named to the AVCA Best and Brightest First Team as well as the AVCA High School All-Region Team in 2022. Ivie was also selected as a Under Armour All-America Camp Nominee in February.
"Sav is a vocal, well-trained libero who, like her classmates, has fantastic club training. She has quick reflexes and doesn't let the ball hit the floor," said Royer-Johnson, "she has the ability to step on the court right away next fall."
These four student-athletes are a part of a Providence 2023 recruiting class that was ranked in the top-30 recruiting classes in the nation, according to PrepVolleyball.com.
