Learfield Directors' Cup Final Fall Standings
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College is ranked 36th in the latest Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The final set of fall sports rankings were released in a combined effort by NACDA and Learfield on Jan. 13 and the Friars accumulated 166 points.
The Friars' women's cross country team picked up 48Â points by virtue of its 26th-place finish at the NCAAÂ Championships on Nov. 20Â in Tallahassee, Fla. The men's cross country team was awarded 29Â points for its 32nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships. The men's soccer team earned 64 points after advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, while the women's soccer team earned 25 points after making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993.
Providence was ranked first among all Division I non-FBS/FCS institutions. The Friars are ranked third among BIG EAST Conference members in the final fall set of Learfield Directors' Cup Standings. Georgetown currently ranks 15th (241 points), while Villanova is second among BIG EAST members and 23rd overall (196 points).
Last year, Providence College finished 206th in the Learfield Directors' Cup final standings.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
