SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Providence College men's swimming and diving program fell to intrastate rival Bryant, 196-104, on Oct. 22 in Smithfield, R.I.
In the 50-yard freestyle, three Friars finished in the top five to collect a combined total of 12 points in the event. Providence was paced by Will Layden, who finished with a time of 20.96, while teammate
Brian Cantin finished third (21.93) and
Aidan Hughes placed fifth (22.42).
Layden also claimed the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 47.00, which was over a full second faster than the second-place finisher for Bryant (48.27).
Justin Viotto took home top honors in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 4:52.40.
Seth Brodnick finished third in the event (4:53.81). Viotto also placed second in the field during the 200-yard IM, with a time of 1:58.83.
Ryan Sharp earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (53.25), touching the wall ahead of three Bulldogs.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Aidan Hughes, Cantin,
McGovern Brown and Layden grabbed 11 points for the Friars while finishing in 1:25.95.
In the 200-yard medley relay, McGovern,
Kevin Hood, Sharp and Layden placed second to earn four points, touching the wall in 1:35.32.
Providence will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29 against Iona College. The meet will take place in New Rochelle, N.Y.
