No. 9 Women’s Hockey Travels To Upstate New York For Weekend Clashes Against Union And RPI

Puck Drop
The No. 9 Friars are set to travel to upstate New York this weekend for non-conference road matches against Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Puck drop is schedule for 6:00 p.m. at Union on Friday, Oct. 22 before a 3:00 p.m. puck drop at RPI on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Tied Up With The Bobcats
Providence is coming off of a home-and-home series against Quinnipiac. The teams tied both Friday and Saturday's games, 2-2 and 1-1, respectively.
 
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored for the Friars in Friday's match at Schneider. Peterson got the Friars on the board firs, off a power play goal assisted by Bailey Burton (Bloomington, Minn.) and Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.). Becker, a leading point scorer for the Friars, netted the second goal with help from Lindsday Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.). The teams were scoreless through overtime, ending the game in a 2-2 tie. Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) stopped all six shots she faced in overtime, tallying 21 saves overall.
 
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Friars at Saturday's game. Lunny tipped in a shot from the point by Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas) who earned her first career point as a Friar off of the assist. Lunny also proved a defensive threat, tallying five blocks. The teams skated through overtime, 1-1. Abstreiter recorded a season-high saves on the afternoon with 37 saves.
 
USCHO Division I Women's Poll: October 18th 2021
As of Oct. 18, the Friars are slotting in at number nine in the USCHO NCAA Women's Hockey rankings. This is Providence's second consecutive week in the number nine spot.
 
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes six new players to the roster for the 2021-22 season. Ashlyn Garnett (Nova Scotia, Canada) comes from Canada as the remaining five enter Providence from the United States; Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas), Kailey Sato (South Pasadena, Calif), Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.), Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.), and Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.)
 
Scouting the Dutchwomen
Union College holds a 2-4-1 overall record with a 0-2-0 ECAC conference record. The Dutchwomen dropped both games against the Friars other weekend opponent, RPI, in their sole conference match ups. Union fell in game one, 0-4, on Friday, Oct. 8 before finishing the series with a 2-9 loss on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Friars hold a 83.3 win percentage with a 7-1-1 record all-time.

Who to Watch
Celeste Beaudoin leads the Dutchwomen in points (five) with two goals and three assists. Union has five different players who have recorded four points, with Maddie Suitor being the lead goal scorer among the bunch (three).

Olivia Rinzel and Sophie Matsoukas have shared duty in net. Rinzel holds a 3.11 goals against average and .865 save percentage while Matsoukas has a 6.70 goals against average and a .837 save percentage.
 
Scouting the Engineers
The Engineers enter the game at 2-4-0 (2-0-0 ECAC). In their last weekend of play, RPI finished a conference series against Union College with two wins, defeating the Dutchwomen, 4-0, in game one and, 9-2, game two.
 
Who to Watch
Marah Wagner is the leading point scorer (six) for the Engineers with three goals and three assists. Audrey McCutcheon is RPI's leading goal scorer (four) and has five points on the season. Providence leads all-time over Rensselaer with a 58.3 win percentage and 3-2-1 all-time record.  
 
Amanda Rampado has earned all six starts in net for the Engineers. She holds a 2.16 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. Rampado recorded one shutout against RPI on Oct. 8.
