God Shammgod arrived at Providence College in 1995 after a stellar high school career in New York City. As a high school All-American, Shammgod played at LaSalle Academy.  In his freshman season at Providence, Shammgod was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team after he established a then BIG EAST freshman assist record with 189 (6.5 apg).  In his first season at Providence, he averaged 9.6 points and 6.5 assists, while the team posted an 18-12 mark overall and a 9-9 record in league play. The squad was eliminated from post-season play after being defeated by St. Joseph's in the second round of the NIT. In his second season with the Friars, Shammgod helped lead the team to a 24-12 record (10-8 BIG EAST) and a dramatic run in the 1997 NCAA Tournament.  In the NCAA Tourney, the Friars defeated Marquette, Duke, and Tennessee-Chattanooga before losing to eventual national champion Arizona in overtime (96-92) in the Elite Eight.  Shammgod had 23 points and five assists in that memorable loss.  In two seasons with the Friars, he averaged 10.3 points, 6.6 assists and 2.0 rebounds.  Shammgod entered the NBA Draft in 1997 and was selected in the Second Round (45thoverall) by the Washington Wizards.  He played one season in the NBA with the Wizards.  For the remainder of his career, Shammgod played domestically and internationally in Poland, China, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Croatia.  After retiring from professional basketball in 2012, he returned to Providence College to finish his undergraduate degree requirements and serve as a volunteer on Head Coach Ed Cooley's staff.  He also worked on his Master's Degree.  In 2016, Shammgod accepted a player development position with the Dallas Mavericks.  He is in his fourth season with the Mavericks.  Most recently, Puma introduced a sneaker branded with his namesake, the Legacy Shammgod.
