Providence College Athletics donated over 350 gifts to 35 local families.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Providence College Athletics, led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) joined forces with the DaVinci Center, a non-profit organization located in Providence, R.I. to provide Christmas gifts to local families this past December. Â
The Adopt a Family Project is a program set in place by the DaVinci Center, to improve the quality of life for the residents in the North End of Providence. The families work with the center throughout the year in a variety of ways. This specific program matches donors with children in need to provide gifts of clothing and toys during the Christmas season.
All 19 varsity athletic sports teams at Providence College were assigned a group of children to help provide for. This year, over 350 gifts were delivered to the center for 125 children from 35 local families.Â
Executive Director, John DeLuca, met with members of the athletic department upon delivery of the gifts.Â
Â
"We at the DaVinci Center would like to express gratitude to the PC Athletic Department for all the efforts you expended on behalf of 125 needy children from 35 families who reside on the periphery of the PC campus." DeLuca said. "The joy that you brought into the hearts and homes of these beautiful families is immeasurable. The joy could only be assessed by the exuberance which the sometimes-tearful parents displayed on picking up the beautiful gifts wrapped with such love and care. In some cases, the parents indicated that the gifts provided by you were the only gifts that the children were receiving due to hardship. It is edifying to know that our neighborhood is blessed by such a caring institution as Providence College. We are further grateful for the administration and staff of PC who are nurturing such altruistic values in their young students. These are values that bring fulfillment to the individual in life."
