Duke Adds 16 Points As Team USA Is Defeated By Argentina In Pan Am Games Semifinals

Team USA will play Dominican Republic for Bronze Medal on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

LIMA, Peru – Team USA was defeated by Argentina, 114-75, in the Pan American Games semifinals on Saturday night at Dibos Coliseum in Lima, Peru.   

Team USA, 2-2, will play Dominican Republic in the bronze-medal game on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.  Argentina will meet Puerto Rico for the gold medal.

"Argentina showed why they are one of the best teams in the world," Head Coach Ed Cooley said.  "I've been proud of our effort in this tournament and tomorrow we have a chance to win a bronze medal against the Dominican Republic.  We have to bounce back quickly and I believe we will."  

Friar sophomore David Duke had a team-high 16 points, four assists and three steals to lead the USA Team.

The BIG EAST Conference is representing USA Basketball at the Pan American Games.  Providence's Ed Cooley is the team's head coach. 

The Pan American Games is a multi-sport event featuring teams from North, South and Central American and the Caribbean, which is organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and played every four years in the year preceding the Olympics (2019, 2023, etc.).
