Volleyball Adds Two Student-Athletes To The 2020 Class

Sammie Ruggles and Noelle Carey will enroll at Providence College in the fall of 2020 and join the volleyball team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson announced today [Dec. 4] that Sammie Ruggles (North Olmsted, Ohio) and Noelle Carey (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) will join the Providence volleyball team in the fall of 2020.
 
"Sammie has a very fast release with her sets which fits well into our offense," Head Coach Royer-Johnson said. "She is a tough player who refuses to lose. We are really excited for her to be a Friar."
 
Ruggles attends Lake Ridge Academy and led her volleyball team to a 63-26 record over four years. The 6'0 setter tallied 1,335 assists, 1,067 digs, 758 kills, 233 service aces and 113 blocks during her career. Ruggles is a four-time Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches' Association All-Star, three-time Ohio Sectional Champion and two-time Lorain County Division IV Player of the Year. Ruggles played club volleyball for Academy Volleyball Cleveland.
 
Ruggles plans to study marketing at Providence College. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Paul Ruggles. 
 
"Noelle is a well-trained passer," Coach Royer-Johnson said. "She has good defensive instincts and can be a threat from the service line. She is a great fit for our program and we look forward to working with her."
 
Carey played club volleyball for Academy and attends The Mary Louis Academy. The 5'6 defensive specialist played an influential role in leading her high school team to three-straight City Championships and three-straight State semifinals. 
 
Carey is the daughter of Regina and Craig Carey. She plans to study Finance at Providence College.
