Cayce, S.C. -
The Providence College Women's Tennis team concluded their season with a 4-0 defeat against Creighton in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament in Cayce, SC. The 10th seeded Friars played a competitive match through the end until the 7th seeded Blue Jays clinched the winning point.
The Friars started slow in the Doubles point, falling into early holes in all three matches. Aidan Epstein and Risa Takenaka were marching back from a tough 3-0 start but their comeback attempt was halted after Creighton clinched the point in the no. 2 and no. 3 matches.
In Singles, three Friars came out strong with first set wins. Sophomores Aidan Epstein and Natalie Pitocco quickly wrapped up their first sets 6-4 each, while Freshman Sera Satkowski held off her opponent to win the set 6-4 as well. All three of their opponents battled back in the second set, but the matches were left unfinished once the Blue Jays clinched the match.
Senior Katie Marvin set the competitive tone for her team in the match in Singles 4. Playing in her final college match, Marvin lost her first set 6-2 and was down 5-1 in her second set, before launching a furious comeback bid which saw her win the next five games. It wasn't enough however, as the second set ended 7-5 in favor of Creighton.
The Friars finish the season 4-16 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
