Riverside, R.I. -
The Providence College Women's Tennis team hosted BIG EAST rival Butler University today for their first conference match of the 2017-18 season. In a matchup that was closer than the score reflected, the Friars were defeated 7-0 by the Bulldogs.
The day started with doubles play, where Butler showed their strength as their pairs won the point for their team. In singles play, several Friars played highly competitive matches but came up just short. Sophomore Natalie Pitocco had a thrilling match in singles no. 5, as she nearly won a close tiebreaker against Butler's Lauren Marx. Junior Risa Takenaka and freshman Lauryn Jacobs also played in close matches, but couldn't quite edge out the Bulldogs today.
Providence College is now 1-2 in the Spring season. The Friars will return to Centre Court Tennis Club in Riverside, R.I. when they host Dayton University on Saturday, Mar. 3, at 8:45am.
