Hamden, Conn. -

This weekend, the Providence College women's tennis team travelled to Hamden, Conn. to compete in the Quinnipiac Invitational Tournament (Sept. 15-17). It was a tough weekend of competition facing many talented teams from Army, Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, Quinnipiac University, Fordham University and University of Connecticut.
Many Providence players had disappointing results in the opening matches on Friday evening in both singles and doubles play. On Saturday, the team showed a new life. They came out with heads high and demonstrated their grit and resilience as three Providence players fought their way to the semifinals in their respective brackets.
In the A Singles Consolation Bracket, both Aidan Epstein and Risa Takenaka showed great poise, taking down their respective opponents from Fairfield, 8-3. In B Singles Consolation, freshman Lauryn Jacobs stepped up to defeat Steph Yanosov from Quinnipiac, 8-4.
Head Coach, Jakob Klaeson was very happy with his team's Saturday performance, "We bounced back from the team's tough Friday result to finish the weekend with improved energy, effort and team spirit on Saturday. There were improvements from everyone."
The team returns to action next Thursday, September 28th, taking on Fairfield University.
