NEW HAVEN, CONN. -

The Providence College women's tennis team ended their six-game road stretch earlier today, March 18, with a 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart University in New Haven, Conn. at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Katherine DeNucci and Annie DaSilva teamed up to win third doubles to give the Friars an early advantage. The sibling pair of Amanda Pitocco and Natalie Pitocco dropped their match in the No. 2 slot, but Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein locked up the doubles point with a win in the No. 1 slot.

A strong showing from freshmen Natalie Pitocco and Aidan Epstein set the Friars on their way to splitting singles play. N. Pitocco locked up the point from sixth singles with back-to-back 6-2 sets. Epstein earned a point for the Friars in the No. 3 spot with a straight set victory (6-1, 6-1).

The deciding point in the match came from senior Amanda Pitocco in second singles.

"Amanda came up big under pressure for us," head coach Jakob Klaeson said.

A. Pitocco took the first set against Sacred Heart's Taylor Gurda, 6-4. The senior then took the second set 7-6 to bring home the point and the match for the Friars.

"The team has had a tough schedule," Klaeson noted as the Friars closed a six-game road stretch. "Their constant energy and positivity helped them pull through today."

With the win the friars improve the 4-9 on the year and 2-8 in the spring season. Providence College returns to the court at home on Tuesday, March 21. Match play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
