PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College women's tennis team hosted Marist College at the Centre Court Tennis Club in Providence, R.I. on Friday, Feb. 10. In a match decided by one point, the Red Foxes bested the Friars, 4-3.
After the Friars dropped No. 3 doubles, the duo of Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein pulled away with the No. 1 slot to even it up. The Red Foxes battled to a 7-5 win in No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.
Single play opened with the No. 4 slot, going to Callie Morlock of Marist over Katherine DeNucci of Providence. The Friars retaliated as freshman Aidan Epstein topped Claire Schmitz in back-to-back sets. The Red Foxes earned the points from the six and five spots to clinch the match.
Refusing to go down without a fight, the Friars earned the final two points of the night. Takenaka battled to win straight sets over Chloe Lant of Marist in the No. 1 slot, 7-6, 7-6. Senior Amanda Pitocco rounded out the night with a come from behind victory in the third set of second singles.
"Even in defeat I am very proud of this team," Coach Jakob Klaeson noted after the match. "They showed a lot of heart tonight."
Providence College returns to action on Friday, Feb. 17 at 4:45 p.m. ET at Centre Court in Providence, R.I. against Army West Point.
