Women's Tennis Tops Saint Peter's, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team took on Saint Peter's University at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. on Saturday, Jan. 21. In Jakob Klaeson debut as head coach, the friars bested the Peacocks, 6-1.

The Friars won the doubles point by securing the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Amand Pitocco and Nicole Cyterski quickly locked up the first spot, 6-0. Katherine DeNucci and Risa Takenaka would follow that up with a 6-1 win. The third doubles match was left unfinished as the Friars had already earned the point.

Sophomore Risa Takenaka won the No. 1 singles slot convincingly, (6-0, 6-2). Freshman Aidan Epstein secured the No. 5 spot with back-to-back 6-1 sets. Nicole Cyterski won in straight sets in the second position (6-1, 6-0). The third singles position went to Amanda Pitocco. Stephanie Falcon of Saint Peter's notched the only point for the Peacocks, taking down Katherine DeNucci of the Friars in the fourth position. Freshman Natalie Pitocco closed out play for the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 spot.

Providence College return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. ET at Centre Court in Providence, R.I. against Siena College.
