Women's Tennis Competes At Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, CONN. - The Providence College women's tennis team travelled to the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Facility to compete amongst eight teams in the Quinnipiac invitational from Sept. 16-18. The Friars posted a 3-15 singles record and went 1-4 in doubles play on the weekend.
Junior Katherine DeNucci won her main draw match against Sacred Heart's Claudia Ruiz in the first round of the C Flight (6-1, 6-3).
Senior Amanda Pitocco and junior Brooke Burnside both earned victories in their first consolation matches. Pitocco's win came against Sabrina Navarro of Sacred Heart in the B Flight (8-7), while Burnside topped Fairfield's Meghan Zimmer (8-4).
In doubles play, Aidan Epstein and Risa Takenaka paired up to earn the only win for the Friars in the first round of the A Flight, outlasting Fairfield 6-2.
The Providence College women's tennis team returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 22 to compete in the West Point Invite in West Point, N.Y.
