ITHACA, N.Y. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams have completed their second day of competition at the BIG EAST Championships at Ithaca College in Ithaca N.Y. on Thursday, Feb. 19.
For the women, freshman Abigail Belisle Haley (Yarmouth, Maine) earned 14th place in the finals of the 50y freestyle, finishing in 24.61. In preliminary round of the 500y freestyle, sophomore Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) finished 17th and 18th, respectively with times of 5:07.18 and 5:07.90. In the prelims of the 200y IM, senior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) took 18th place (2:13.07). The 200y freestyle relay, consisting of junior Reilly O'Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.), sophomore Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.), sophomore Kelly Quinn (Garden City, N.Y.), and Belisle Haley earned sixth place (1:38.71).
On the men's side, senior John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) mounted the podium with a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 200y IM race, touching the wall at 1:53.49. Freshman Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.) also competed in the finals of the same event, placing 16th with a time of 1:58.57. In the 500y freestyle prelims, senior Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) earned 18th place (4:44.52), while sophomore Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) took 21st (4:52.02). The 200y freestyle relay made up of freshman Charles Sabaitis (Spring Lake, N.J.), sophomore Michael Martinico (Nesconset, N.Y.), sophomore Jonathan Mariner (Marion, Mass), and senior James Butler (Medfield, Mass.) finished in fifth (1:27.63).
The BIG EAST Championships will continue Friday, Feb. 20, starting at 10 a.m.
