INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Providence College Friars overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to earn their first road win of the season as they defeated Butler, 66-62, in BIG EAST action on Tuesday, January 6 in Indianapolis, Ind. Sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) recorded a career high 25 points in the win, including 20 in the second half.

The Friars got an early lead in the game as the jumped out to a 12-5 advantage in the first four minutes of play. However, Kellen Dunham got hot for the Bulldogs and shot 5-9 from the field and scored a first-half high of 13 points to pace Butler to 36-29 advantage after 20 minutes of action. Senior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) and senior Carson Desrosiers each had seven to lead PC.

In the second half, Head Coach Ed Cooley changed the lineup and played primarily Dunn, Henton, freshman Paschal Chukwu (Westport, Conn.), graduate student Ted Bancroft (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Junior Lomomba (Montreal, Quebec). Those five helped the Friars play tough defense which limited Butler to just eight field goals in the second half, including one three pointer. On the offensive end of the floor, Dunn and Henton did all the heavy lifting for the Friars. Henton finished with 18 points.

The game went back and forth through the second half with PC taking it first lead of the final 20 minutes with 13:05 left in the game (43-42) when Dunn made a layup. However, Butler regained the lead until 1:26 remained in the game and Chukwu grabbed a rebound and dunked home the ball to give PC a 59-58 lead. The Friars never trailed again. The Friars got a big defensive stop then Dunn hit a jumper and PC's lead was three points. The Friars continued their tight defense in the closing seconds and Chukwu hit two key free throws as the Friars cruised to the victory.

Chukwu finished with four points, nine rebounds and two blocks for the Friars. Dunham led Butler with 18 points. Kameron Woods added 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Providence will return to action on Saturday, January 10 at noon versus Georgetown. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
