PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Swimming and Diving Head Coach John O'Neill announced captains for the 2014-15 season today, Tuesday, Sept. 16. Serving as captains for the women's team are seniors Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) and Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.). Last season O'Neill qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in three individual events and as part of four relay teams. She was the top scorer in the 100y backstroke and 200y backstroke events throughout the season. O'Neill currently ranks eighth all-time scoring at Providence College. Last season, Federiconi broke the record for the 100y breaststroke and swam the fourth-fastest 200y IM all-time at Providence. She qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in three individual events and as part of two relay events. Federiconi earned third place in the finals in the 100y breaststroke and ninth place in the 200y IM event. She earned All-BIG EAST Honors and was recipient of the David Hardy Award. She currently ranks sixth all-time scoring at Providence.
On the men's side, seniors John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) and Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) will serve as captains. Fatigati led the team with 23 first-place finishes last year. He broke the record in three events, the 200y backstroke, the 200y IM and the 400y IM. Fatigati swam the second-fastest 100y backstroke and third-fastest 200y freestyle all-time at Providence. He qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in five individual events and as part of three relays. Fatigati earned third place in the BIG EAST finals in the 200y IM. He was a three-time recipient of BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Honors, earned All-BIG EAST Honors, and was recipient of the Horace Bowden Most Valuable Player Award for the third consecutive year. Fatigati currently ranks second all-time scoring at Providence. Tse was the top scorer in the 500y freestyle event on the team last season. He qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in three individual events and as part of three relays. Tse was part of the 800y freestyle relay which broke the school record last season. He currently sits in tenth place all-time scoring at Providence.
The Friars open their season at the Northeast Catholic Invitational at Boston College on Friday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
