In the first half, Providence (17-9, 7-6 BIG EAST) never trailed and held a 49-26 lead at the intermission. Cotton led the Friars with 15 points (5-for-6, 4-for-4 FT) and four rebounds. Sophomore guard Josh Fortune (Hampton, Va.) also put up 10 points, including two 3-pointers. As a team, The Friars shot 64-percent in the first half while the Blue Demons (10-16, 2-11 BIG EAST) shot 33-percent. The Friars scored 14 points off of six Blue Demons turnovers.
The Friars controlled the second half and held the lead for the entire stanza. For the fourth time this season the Friars had all five starters score in double-digits. Providence finished the game with six players in double-digits, the first time since December 9, 2009 the team accomplished the feat, when Providence defeated George Washington, 110-97.
For the game, the Friars scored 23 points off of turnovers and outrebounded DePaul 37 to 30. The Friars improved their record at the Dunkin' Donuts Center to 12-2 this season.
DePaul was led by Brandon Young who scored 18 points. Sandi Marcius and Billy Garrett also tallied double-digits in scoring, with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The Friars will return to action when they host No. 6 Villanova on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
