Oct. 8, 2014 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team will face University of Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Bowdoin on Monday, Oct. 13, as the Friars wrap up the team portion of their fall schedule.

The team will be looking to build off the commanding performance they displayed their last time out. On Sunday, September 28, the Friars cruised to a double header sweep of Holy Cross and Hartford, winning each match by the score of 7-0. Ten different players contributed victories over the course of the double header, and according to Head Coach Kyle LaBranche, that depth will be critical for the Friars during the upcoming matches. "This weekend should provide our players with multiple opportunities to face good competition," stated LaBranche. "This time of year we are trying to gauge our own line-up and development, and two quality opponents such as UConn and Bowdoin will definitely give us a chance to see how we do against tougher competition."

In the first match-up of the weekend, the Friars will take on UConn on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Huskies come into town as a team on the rise, having acquired several highly ranked recruits over the last couple of years. Their performances this fall have been highlighted by several standout individual performances at the Quinnipiac Invitational in early September. The Huskies will also be looking for revenge on Saturday, as they are 0-2 in their last two matches against the Friars. Both of those defeats came during the 2013 Big East season, and it was the second loss to the Friars that eliminated the Huskies from that tournament, UConn's last Big East tennis match before moving to the American Athletic Conference.

On Monday afternoon, the Friars will take on the Bowdoin Polar Bears at 2:30 p.m. The tilt will mark the first time the two schools will play each other in Coach LaBranche's tenure. The Polar Bears reached the quarterfinals of the Division III national championship tournament last year and they should serve as another formidable source of competition for the Friars.
