Providence College Swimming and Diving Competes at BIG EAST Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.-The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued competing at the BIG EAST Championships, hosted by IUPUI, in Indianapolis, Ind.
On the women's side, sophomore Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) placed 41st in the 500y freestyle event, finishing in 5:15.08, while classmate Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) completed the 200y IM in 2:12.37, finishing 38th. Senior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.) placed 27th in the 50y freestyle relay finishing in 24.33. Schlich, senior Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) and juniors Meghan Condon (Stratford, Conn.) and Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) swam the 200y freestyle relay in 1:38.00. Schlich posted a time of 24.07 in the leading leg, breaking her own school 50y freestyle record of 24.24 which she set at the BIG EAST Championships last season.
the men's side, sophomore Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) placed 32nd in the 500y freestyle (4:44.92), while junior Connor Lui (Monroe, Conn.) finished 20th in the 50y freestyle (21.95).
Day two for the Friars was highlighted by sophomore John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) who finished 16th in the 200y IM with a time of 1:53.39. Fatigati's time of 1:52.17 in the preliminary round broke the school record of 1:54.13 which had stood for 17 years.
Seniors Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) and Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) both competed in the 1m diving event, and finished in 19th and 21st place, respectively. Black finished with 200.30 points and Fracker earned 185.75 points. Black will compete in the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in March.
The BIG EAST Diving Championships will conclude on Saturday, March 2. The events for Friday, Mar. 1 include the men's 3m dive, the men's and women's 400y IM, 100y butterfly, 200y freestyle, 100y breaststroke and 400y medley relay.
