Women's Tennis Tops St. Peter's, 5-2

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Providence College women's tennis team defeated St. Peter's, 5-2, on Sunday, March 4 in Jersey City, N.J. It marks the second-straight victory for the Friars, who improve to 2-1 during the spring season.

The Friars earned victories in two of three doubles matches against the Peahens. Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) took an 8-4 win at No. 1, while Karen Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Alli Carnall (Hatfield, Mass.) posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Taylor Ahlborn (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss) were defeated at the No. 2 spot, 8-0.

In singles action, Aviles-Duron topped her opponent, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1. Bernardez fell at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-5. Ramirez completed the weekend with an undefeated record at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Ramirez also was perfect over the weekend in doubles play.

At No. 4 singles, Corder claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Ahlborn fell in a tough match at No. 5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Carnall picked up the win at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
