Fans,
I hope you have all been enjoying your respective summers so far as the start of school and the Fall sports season is right around the corner. Some of our Fall teams have already returned to campus and have begun putting in the work to bring home their conference championships. Our Women's Soccer team is returning five seniors while the Men's Soccer team returns six to a team ranked 20th in the goal.com Top-25 Preseason Poll. Speaking of returning to campus, Marshon Brooks, the 25th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft will be returning to the PC campus to complete his degree in Social Science while the league lockout continues. Once the NBA lockout is lifted Marshon will begin his career as a member of the New Jersey Nets.
The Athletic Department is proud to announce that we have implemented a new online ticket system for all of our fans. Returning season tickets holders can renew their packages online and new packages can easily be purchased. Also, mini plans or individual game tickets can be bought online. In addition, season ticket holders can transfer their tickets online to friends and family and print them out as well. Beginning in March, Alumni Gym will begin a six-month renovation plan that includes a new scoreboard, new sound system, and chair back seats among other improved amenities. There is also a plan in place to begin the building of a new athletic complex that will be used for soccer, track, and lacrosse as well as constructing an addition to Schneider Arena. We are also looking to make a few additions to our staff by adding members of the Nelligan and Global Spectrum families to a group sales team that will focus on Men's Ice Hockey and Women's Basketball.
On a larger scale, the Presidents and Chancellors of member schools of the Big East Conference will hold a meeting on October 4 to discuss the future of the Big East Conference. The length and value of a new long term television contract with ESPN will be discussed as will the possibility of expansion. Last year, the Big Ten and the Pac-12 (formally known as the Pac-10) both added teams to their conferences. More recently, the Southeastern Conference has been considering a similar move by possibly adding teams from the Big 12 and the Atlantic Coast Conference. Conference realignment has the ability to affect all universities and colleges across the nation and I will be sure to update all Friar fans as these talks progress. Be sure to look for the release of the 2010-11 Annual Report which will detail PC's record breaking year in fundraising.
Go Friars!
