PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Head Coach John O'Neill released the Providence College 2011-12 swimming and diving schedule today (August 15). The Friars, fresh off a campaign in which 30 team members qualified to compete at the 2011 BIG EAST Championships in Louisville, Ky., will hope to exceed that number when this year's Championships are held at Pittsburgh in February 2012.

The Friars open up the schedule October 22, 2011 with a return to the Husky Invitational at the University of Connecticut. The Friars home schedule begins with a visit from BIG EAST rival Seton Hall University on November 5th. Providence then makes a short road trip to Bryant University on Wednesday, November 9th. The Providence women will travel to Rhode Island for the program's annual "Pink Out" meet to help raise awareness and funds to support the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation. On Friday, November 18th, the Friars will take on the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. Providence will close out its first semester with the annual Harold Anderson Invitational at Rhode Island on December 2-3, 2011.

The second semester will include the Friars annual training trips. The divers will travel to Ponce, Puerto Rico, while the swimmers will train in the Grand Cayman Islands. When the team returns to the states, the Friars will host Maine at Taylor Natatorium on January 14, 2012. After traveling to BIG EAST foe Villanova on January 21st, the Friars will travel to Holy Cross to take on the long-time rival from the Patriot League. Providence will close out the dual meet season by welcoming back Boston College to Providence for senior day on February 4th. All BIG EAST qualifiers will then move on and prepare for the conference championships, February 15-18, 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Friars will again kick off their season by participating in the Second Annual Swim Across America-Rhode Island to be held September 10, 2011. Coach O'Neill and his wife Cindy will join their swimmers, divers, as well as Friar alumni and swim in this exciting event at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett, R.I.
