Providence, R.I. - On Saturday, March 5, 2011, Providence College Athletics announced the establishment of the Allan Baker Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be given to an African-American student-athlete who is a member of the varsity women's volleyball team or another Olympic varsity sport.
The fund was established by the Baker family. His wife, Laura, and daughters, Jennifer and Allison `06, did this in honor of their late father, Allan. Allan was a member of the class of 1974 and member of the legendary 1973 PC men's basketball Final Four team. He bled black and white and made a positive impact on many members of the Friar family.
Providence College President, Brian J. Shanley O.P. `80 and Athletic Director Bob Driscoll presented the Baker family with a framed jersey in honor of Allan and also a plaque honoring them as the BIG EAST Donor of the Year.
