Happy 2011 Friar Fans!

I hope you had a memorable break and had a chance to spend time with your friends and loved ones.

I am proud to announce that Providence College was ranked 14th out of over 300 schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup for the 2010 fall semester.  The Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institutions finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. One of our goals here at PC is to place within the top 50 schools, so it brings me great pleasure to see that we are not only reaching our goal, but excelling.  My congratulations go out to our sports teams for this impressive athletic accomplishment.

Our vision team, headed by Celtics President Rich Gotham, met last month with the committee and Fr. Shanley to discuss the importance of renovating Alumni Hall and Mullaney Gymnasium. It was agreed that this renovation needs to take place in order to ensure the future success of the men’s and women’s basketball programs. We are currently in an active fundraising phase with renovations set to commence in March 2012. The renovation should be completed by fall 2012.

In other news, the Friar Lacrosse team will play perennial power Syracuse at Gillette Stadium on April 16th. The game, which will be a part of a doubleheader, is a great showcase for Providence College and the recently formed BIG EAST Lacrosse conference.

Go Friars!
