My fellow Friars,
Yesterday, the Providence College athletic department welcomed Jack Clark to Friartown to conduct a seminar on the topic of team development. Clark has an extensive background in building teams. He has worked with legendary coaches such as 10-time NBA Champion Phil Jackson and successful Fortune 500 companies such as Oracle. Clark also has a wealth of coaching experience, having coached 21 collegiate national championship rugby teams at the University of California, Berkeley.
Coach Clark used his time to discuss leadership, the idea of “buying into” the team, modeling, recruiting, and creating a value-driven entity where winning is ancillary to improved performance. After Clark’s lecture, our coaches peppered him with questions on how to build their respective squads to compete at the highest levels. I found the dialogue to be very interesting, as it brought fresh, practical ideas to be considered.
The visit from Coach Clark was a culmination of many hours spent on the phone with our head coaches here at PC. The seminar allowed our athletic department to receive advice and understanding from an experienced third party.
On behalf of myself and the athletic department, I would like to thank my good friend for his time, energy, and expertise.
Go Friars!
