Friar Fans,
I am happy to say that the NCAA First & Second Rounds at the Dunkin' Donuts Center was a success! The event provided a wonderful showcase for Providence College, the city and the state of Rhode Island. I want to thank my entire staff, the Providence Convention Bureau and our good friends at the Dunk for all their hard work in bringing this exciting event to our state.
Despite a difficult loss in the semifinals of the Hockey East Championship, our women's ice hockey team had one of its best seasons in recent memory. Head Coach Bob Deraney was recognized for his outstanding coaching and was named Hockey East Coach of the Year for the first time in his illustrious career. Not only were our women successful on the ice this year, they also raised $2,275 through "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer."
I recently returned from BIG EAST meetings in New York City and I am pleased to report that the conference is in great shape and we continue to have dialogue on ways in which we can solidify our position as one of the top conferences in America.
For those of you who were fortunate enough to score NCAA basketball tickets, I hope you enjoyed the competitive and exciting games.
As always, remember... Go Friars!
