Fort Myers, Fla. -
The Providence College women's tennis team fell to Florida Gulf Coast University, 7-0, on Sunday, February 28. The meet lasted just under three hours.
PC struggled against the Eagles, as only two Friars were able to win games in singles play. No. 1 singles player, freshman Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), won a tiebreak to take the first set over Iris Rendon, 7-6. Rendon answered and rode the momentum of a 6-2 win in the second set to eventually win a super tiebreak, 10-2, to capture the point for the Eagles.
The Friars were held in check in doubles play as they managed to win just one game in all three matches.
With the loss, Providence falls to 3-3 on the year and 0-2 for the spring season. FGCU improves to 2-3.
The women's tennis team is back in action on Friday, March 5, as they take on Army in West Point, N.Y. The Friars will stay in West Point on Saturday, March 6, to battle NJIT in a neutral site match-up.
