BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated at Northeastern, 5-0, Saturday night in the back-end of a home-and-home series at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. Northeastern's Chris Rawlings made 29 saves to earn his fourth-career shutout. The loss ended PC's seven-game unbeaten streak, its longest since February 2003.

Providence is now 5-5-3 overall and 3-3-3 in Hockey East play, while Northeastern improved to 2-7-3 and 2-4-2 in the league.

Despite outshooting Northeastern, 12-10, in the first period, Providence trailed 1-0 after the first 20 minutes. Wade MacLeod gave his team a 1-0 lead when his shot from the slot glanced off the cross bar and into the net at 14:43.

Northeastern then scored a power-play goal 31 seconds into the second period to double its lead to 2-0. Steve Silva pounced on a loose puck in front to record his third goal of the season. The Friars nearly cut the lead in half while on the power play when freshman Derek Army (North Kingstown, R.I.) gained possession of the puck after a carom off the right wing boards and had a partial breakaway, but his backhander missed just wide at 8:58. Late in the period, senior Eric Baier (North Kingstown, R.I.) setup classmate Jordan Kremyr (Cloverdale, B.C.) in front, but Kremyr's re-direction was saved by Rawlings.

Anthony Bitetto and Braden Pimm each scored third-period power-play goals to make the score 4-0. The Friars continued to battle while killing a five-minute power play and senior Matt Germain (Rockland, Mass.) skated on a partial short-handed breakaway, but his shot was stopped by Rawlings. Northeastern added a late goal to seal the win.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, November 27 when they travel to Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m. game, while the Huskies will play at Vermont on Friday, November 26.
