The Providence College men's hockey squad was named Hockey East Team of the Week on Monday, November 1. The Friars posted a 1-0-1 record in a home-and-home series against the Minutemen over the weekend. In addition, senior Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) were named to the Hockey East Weekly Honor Roll.
On Friday, October 29, the Friars and the Minutemen played to a 3-3 overtime tie at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. Seniors Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Calif.), O'Connor and Matt Germain (Rockland, Mass.) each scored for the Friars, who had a 3-2 lead with under four minutes remaining in the third period. O'Connor also added one assist, while Beaudry finished with 31 saves.
The following night, the Friars defeated the Minutemen, 3-2, at Schneider Arena. O'Connor recorded one goal and one assist for the second consecutive game and MacKinnon also added one goal and one assist. Sophomore Aaron Jamnick (Hibbing, Minn.) also scored for the Friars who went two-for-four on the power play. Beaudry stopped 32 shots to earn his second win of the season.
The Friars (2-4-1, 2-2-1 Hockey East), who are currently in second in the Hockey East standings, are back in action on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Merrimack at Schneider Arena. PC also will host Vermont on Saturday, November 6. Both games will air live on Cox Sports.
