CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated at Cincinnati, 92-88, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, January 30. Friar senior Sharaud Curry (Gainesville, Ga.) led the team with a game-high 27 points in the loss.

The Friars came out flying in the first half as the team hit eight of its first nine shots of the game and held a 24-16 lead after 6:06 of action. Five of the first eight field goals were three pointers. However, the Bearcats chipped away at the Friars' lead and with 7:15 remaining in the half Rashad Bishop made a layup to give the Bearcats the lead (32-30). The game went back and forth for the remainder of the half and finished tied at 44. Sophomore Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Friars with 14 points in the first half.

In the second half, Friars held a one-point lead (60-59) with 12:16 remaining in the game. Cashmere Wright scored two of his team-high 24 points to give the Bearcats the lead (61-60) at the 11:44 mark. They would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. The Cincinnati lead grew to 13 points with 2:41 left in the game. Providence was able to get within three points (91-88) with eight seconds left in the game, but Jaquon Parker made the second of two free throws to increase the lead to four points (92-88).

In addition to Curry's 27 points, Peterson (19 points), junior Marshon Brooks (12 points) and freshman Vincent Council (10 points) also scored in double figures.

The Friars will return to action on Tuesday, February 2 at No. 4 Syracuse at 7:00 p.m.
