Hello Friar Fans,
On Wednesday, August 19, I met with Commissioner John Marinatto and Athletic Directors from around the BIG EAST for our annual summer meeting. In the meeting, we touched on a number of topics including the progression of the BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Tournament and the television contracts associated with the event. Overall, I am quite pleased with the direction the league is headed. I believe that the conference has never been stronger or more committed to long term success than they are right now.
On the second day of the meetings, we had the distinct pleasure of dining at The Deck restaurant in Newport, R.I. The Deck is owned by former Friar Basketball great, Kevin Stacom. I would like to thank Kevin for hosting the event, as it turned out to be a great success.
As the quest for excellence continues, I find myself in Oregon to visit with a colleague and good friend, Oregon State University Athletic Director Bob De Carolis. Later this week, I travel south to the University of California, Berkeley to meet with another long-time friend, Jack Clark. Clark enters his 27th season as Head Coach of Cal rugby. He has won an unprecedented 20 National Collegiate Championships. In these two visits I hope to “pick their brains” as to what it takes to keep improving programs and sustain success.
Take care and Go Friars!
