I just returned from BIG EAST meetings in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Athletic Directors, head women's and men's basketball coaches and football coaches were in attendance. The annual meeting discussed all sports topics and the direction of the league.
Upon my return, Providence College celebrated its 91st Commencement Exercise on May 17 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. A total of 1,210 degrees were awarded during the 2 1/2-hour ceremony before an audience of approximately 10,000 people. Undergraduate day school graduates represented 29 states, nine countries, and five continents.
Michael A. Tranghese, longtime commissioner of the 16-school BIG EAST Conference and former Friar sports information director received an honorary Doctor of Juridical Science degree. I had the honor of accepting this degree for Michael in his absence.
In other news, our Friar Golf classic is almost here! Join us on Monday, June 1st at the Warwick Country Club for dinner and auction. Meet current and former players including Ryan Gomes, Otis Thorpe, Marvin Barnes, and many more. Guest speakers include President Father Brian J. Shanley, Head Coach Keno Davis, and WEEI's Dale Arnold.
