CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by Boston College, 5-1, Friday in a Hockey East game played at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 11:16 of the first period when junior co-captain John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Sophomore Matt Germain (Rockland, Mass.) slid a pass ahead to Cavanagh who skated in on a breakaway before firing a back-handed shot that glanced off BC goalie John Muse's shoulder and into the net. At 14:50, Almeida potted his second goal of the night as scored from the slot after a PC turnover to make the score, 3-1. Brian Gibbons then added his ninth goal of the season, a power-play tally, to give the Eagles a three-goal edge. BC added a late goal in the third period to seal the win.
