Kingston, R.I. - The men's (1-2) and women's (0-3) swimming and diving teams traveled south to Kingston, R.I. to compete against intra-state rival Rhode Island on Saturday, November 7. The men's team was defeated 146-125, while the women's team dropped the decision, 162-91.
Senior captain Carrie Lamb (New Paltz, N.Y.) paced the women's squad scoring a team-leading 20 overall points thanks to a second-place finish in the 100y backstroke event (1:04.02), a third- place finish in the 200y backstroke, and a third-place finish in the 200y medley relay (1:57.57). Lamb teamed up with sophomore Caroline Caliri (Marblehead, Mass.), freshman Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.) and freshman Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) to take the 200y freestyle relay (1:43.75), earning the Friars 11 points. Junior Alexis Fatigati (New Milford, N.J.) also had a good showing for the Friars, scoring 15 points from three individual events, including a first-place finish in the 500y freestyle (5:29.40). Junior Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) displayed her skill in the 200y IM, taking the event in a time of (2:21.26).
The PC women's diving squad continued their strong diving from last week against Fairfield, posting a one-two finish against three Rhode Island upperclassmen. Freshmen Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) and Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) came in first (213.60) and second (207.75) respectively, defeating all other competitors by more than 25 points.
The men's swimming team saw consistent swimming from virtually all their swimmers. The Friars were led by the strong swimming of freshman Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Colin Casciano (Hewitt, N.J.). Burtchell had three wins on the day including a 500y freestyle triumph in which he beat the field by just under five seconds (4.59.43). Burtchell teamed up with Casciano, Senior Mike Loftis (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Matt Green (Westfield, N.J.) to take the opening event for the men, the 200y medley relay (1:41.93). Casciano went on to win the 100y breaststroke (1:03.81) giving the Friars nine points.
The men's diving team took their second-straight win in head-to-head diving in the 1m event. Freshman Ben Kardian (Valhalla, N.Y.) had an outstanding dive that scored 228.15 points, which translated into a first-place finish. Junior James Cebulski (Trumbull, Conn.) earned four more points for the Friars with his second-place dive of 224.85.
The Friars continue their fall schedule on Friday, November 13 as they travel north to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant University.
