Tennis Completes Play in ITA Regional Championships

Two members of the Providence College women's tennis team (3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) traveled to New Haven, Conn. to compete in the ITA Eastern Regional Championships held from Friday, October 23 to Tuesday, October 27.
During the first day of play Freshman No.1 singles player Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) was defeated by Boston University's Monica Mical in the first round of the singles main draw, 6-0, 6-2. In the doubles main draw Aviles-Duron teamed up with junior No. 2 singles player Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) to face the number nine overall seed of Jen Holzberg and Amy Zhang of Rutgers. The Friars were defeated by the BIG EAST foe, 8-2.

The Friars finish off their fall season by going 3-1 in head-to-head team play with their only loss coming at the hands of intrastate rival Rhode Island. The Friars resume their 2009-10 season as they fly do Fort Myers, Fla. to take on Florida Gulf Coast on February 28.
