Tennis Completes Play At Marist Invitational

The Providence College women's tennis team fell to Marist College, 4-2, on Saturday, October 10. The Friars were defeated by the Red Foxes, 4-2.
Both, sophomore No.4 singles player Melissa Ferry (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman No.6 singles player Brittany Maddock (Marietta, Ga.) posted impressive victories for the Friars. Freshman No.1 singles player Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) won her first set, 6-4, but ended up dropping a super tiebreak point to decide the third and final set, 10-7.
In doubles play the Friars defeated Fordham University, 2-1. Aviles-Duron and junior Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) teamed up to beat Sarah Tremaine and Martina Featherston, 8-4. Meanwhile, sophomore Melanie Albert (Sanibel, Fla.) and Maddock defeated Jane Carroll and Brittany Russell, 8-4.
On day two of the tournament the Friars rebounded, defeating Fordham, 4-2. Providence again saw strong play from Ferry, Maddock and Aviles-Duron as they each played to straight-set victories. Joining the winning campaign was No. 2 singles player Sinha, who won her last two sets against Featherston to take the match.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, October 17 as they compete in the New England Championships in Fairfield, Conn.
