Providence Tennis Sweeps Hartford

The Providence College tennis team (1-1) hosted its first home match of the season, facing the University of Hartford on Tuesday, September 16 in Providence, R.I. Coming off a tight loss to Bryant on Saturday, the Friars rebounded well, sweeping the Hawks, 7-0, for their first head-to-head win of the season.
Sophomore Liz Gillis (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was perfect for the Friars, not allowing a game point all day. Gillis defeated Hartford's Katie Greenburg, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 5 singles position. She then teamed up with classmate Courtney Fuller (Newtown, Conn.) in the No. 3 doubles spot to take an 8-0 victory from the Hawks. Junior Jen Cusack was also perfect in singles actions, sweeping Gulay Ozdemir, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 spot. Senior Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and sophomore Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) earned their first doubles win on the season, defeating Hartford's Kasey Michels and Margaret Sabatino, 8-1, for the No. 1 pair win.
Next up for the Friars is the Siena Invitational in Loudonville, N.Y. Matches will run both Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, starting at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
