PROVIDENCE, R.I. - BIG EAST announced July 31, 2008 the League's All-Academic Team for the 2007-08 season. Over 2,400 student-athletes from the 16 BIG EAST institutions were named to the All-Academic Team. One-hundred three Friar student athletes were named as honorees for the team.

The qualifications the honoree must have completed include, a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, completed a minimum of two-consecutive semesters or three-consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses, along with having competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport and earned a varsity letter in that sport.

Leading the way for the Friars men's teams were the men's cross country and track and field team with 11 honorees and the men's swimming and diving team with nine student athletes achieving the honor. On the women's side, the women's cross country and track and field team led the way with 16 student athletes, while both the women's field hockey and women's soccer each had 14 honorees. All the teams proved that excellence in the classroom is equally important as excellence in athletics.
