The Providence College swimming & diving teams competed at the BIG EAST Championships on Thursday, February 21 through Saturday, February 23 in East Meadow, N.Y. The men's team tallied 64 points while the women earned 38. The University of Notre Dame won both the men's and the women's titles, earning 820 and 767 points, respectively.
Competing on the men's side were sophomores Matthew Card (Bow, N.H.), Michael Loftis (Branford, Conn.), Tim Reilly (Floral Park, N.Y.), and Dave Wilson (Chelmsford, Mass.), and juniors Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.) and Chris Ray (Basking Ridge, N.J.). For the women, freshmen Alexis Fatigati (New Milford, N.J.) and Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.), sophomores Carrie Lamb (New Paltz, N.Y.), and Patricia Osmolak (Harmony, Ill.), and juniors Blair Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) and Lauren Sepe (Warwick, R.I.) represented for the Friars.
The point totals for both teams marked their highest in years, with the men doubling their last year's tally of 32 and the women improving on their 2007 score of 32. On individual levels, 90 percent of the times recorded by the Friars at the BIG EAST Championships were season-best times in their respective events, marking great improvement on the year.
The BIG EAST Championships marked the final event for the Providence College swimming and diving teams for the 2007-08 season.
