Providence College Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season 1-0

The Providence College women's tennis team opened their spring season on Friday, February 8 when they traveled to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's College. Despite strong competition, the Friars pulled away with a 5-2 win.
Freshman Avery Gibson (Fairfield, Iowa) led the way with wins in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, alongside teammate sophomore Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio). Gibson took the No. 1 singles spot, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0, and the No. 1 doubles spot, 9-8. Hawkins-Hodgson also won in the No. 3 singles spot, 6-0, 6-3. Junior Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) was the other Friar two-time winner on Friday, winning in the No. 5 singles spot (6-4, 6-1) and the No. 3 doubles spot, teaming up with sophomore Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.).
The Friar tennis team returns to action on Saturday, February 16 when they face Albany in Albany, N.Y. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
