The Providence College swimming & diving teams traveled to Kingston, R.I. on Saturday, November 8 to take on the University of Rhode Island and Montclair State University. The Friar women swam to their first win of the season, defeating Montclair State, 160-123. The men also defeated the Red Hawks, 208.50-85.50. Competing against only the women, the Rams defeated the Friars, 204-88.

Success on the women's side came from a number of different swimmers. Sophomore Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) earned the Friars' first individual win of the day, taking a commanding victory in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:02.48), with the closest swimmer finishing over 25 seconds after her. Classmate Alexis Fatigati (New Milford, N.J.) took first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:18.43. The Friars also earned the top finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Junior Carrie Lamb (New Paltz, N.Y.), freshman Caroline Caliri, and seniors Lauren Sepe (Warwick, R.I.) senior Blair Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) finished in a winning time of 3:43.98.

On the men's side, once again junior Mathew Card (Bow, N.H.) stood out for the Friars, earning two individual first place finishes and one relay. Card won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.07) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.86). He then teamed with freshman Matt Green, senior Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.), and classmate Mike Loftis (Branford, Conn.) to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:17.25.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 15 when they host intra-state rival Bryant University at home in the Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. The meet is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
