Friar Men's Swimming & Diving Earn First Win

The Providence College swimming & diving teams started their weekend in Washington, D.C. on Friday, October 24 with a meet against American University. The Friar men's team (1-1) swam to their first victory of the season, earning a 209-102 win. The women (0-2), however, fell to the Eagles, 192-99.

The men were led by junior Matthew Card (Bow, N.H.) and sophomore diver James Cebulski (Trumbull, Conn.). Card earned two individual first-place finishes on the day, capturing the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.79) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.38). He then teamed with seniors Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.) and Justin Rich (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Matt Green to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.05). Cebulski won both diving events of the meet, earning 145.20 and 215.62 points respectively.

On the women's side, sophomore Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) stood out for the Friars, earning two individual first place finishes at the meet. Larcom won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:59.36) and the 500-yard (5:21.76).

The Friars continue their stay in the nation's capital on Saturday, October 25 when they will compete in a three-school meet between Georgetown and George Washington University. The meet is set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
