Dear Friar Fans,
It was been a busy week in Friartown as we kicked-off the men's basketball season with Midnight Madness festivities on Friday with great fan support. All of us in Friartown are excited to start a new era with new coach Keno Davis.
On Tuesday night, October 14, we celebrated NY Sports Night hosted by Board of Trustee member, Tom Boyan `85, at PJ Clarke's. It was a great evening as over 100 alumni and friends joined Head Lacrosse coach Chris Burdick and head men's basketball coach Keno Davis to celebrate PC Athletics. We also held a special reception before sports night with over 25 parents, alumni and friends of PC Lacrosse. As we join the new Big East Lacrosse Conference in 2010, your generosity and support and critical as we try and raise funds and scholarships for this program.
I am very happy to report that the NCAA Graduation Rates were announced recently and our student-athletes have done well once again. Providence College's Graduation Success Rate (GSR) stands at 94 percent, ranking the College fourth among BIG EAST Conference schools in the most recent GSR data that was announced by the NCAA. Part of our mission includes a 100 percent graduation rate. With our 94 percent we are close to that 100 percent goal that we strive for each year.
Fanfest is coming to Friartown on Saturday, October 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. It will feature the annual Mal Brown intrasquad scrimmage at 1:00 p.m. Fanfest will feature interactive games for kids, magic tricks, a large interactive inflatable, balloon animals, face painting and much more. The men's and women's basketball teams, as well as other Friar Varsity squads, will sign autographs for the fans. Paws and Wally the Green Monster are just a few that will be in attendance. Lucky, from the Boston Celtics, will also be there performing a special slam dunk show for the fans.
Prior to the Fanfest, the Mal Brown Club will hold a catered brunch with Head Coach Keno Davis at McPhail's in the Slavin Center. Tickets for the events are $25 per person and $10 for kids under the age of 10. Tickets for the brunch can be purchased by calling Jennie Perrault at 401-865-2835. For more information on the Friar Fanfest, please contact Katie Moore at 401-865-2733.
GO FRIARS!
