Friars Compete at ITA Eastern Championships at West Point

The Providence College women's tennis squad traveled to West Point, N.Y. over the weekend for the ITA Eastern Championships, held at the United States Military Academy, September 14-15. Leading the way for the Friars was the duo of junior Amy McDevitt (East Greenwich, R.I.) and freshman Ayashi Sinha. The pair competed in the number one doubles bracket, defeating Ashley Amalfe and Mandy Finklestein of Sacred Heart, 8-5, in the first round on Friday, September 14. McDevitt and Sinha fell to Caitlin Calceterra and Paulina Gambaa of Bucknell, 8-1, in the second round. The pair was successful on Saturday as well, defeating Hofstra's Mary Anne Donning and Stacey Kent, 8-7, in the Litchenburg Doubles consolation round, before falling to Emily Barnett and Gabija Gasiunaite of St. John's, 8-3. Sophomore Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.), competeing in the number two doubles bracket, also had a strong showing, defeating Alexi Abernant of Colgate, 8-7, in the Battle of Buckner ALPHA Singles consolation round on Saturday. Cusack fell in the quarterfinal round, 8-7, to Loyola's Caitlin Day.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, September 22, where they will compete at the URI Duals, starting at 9:00 a.m.
