Connecticut Downs Providence, 7-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence women's tennis team hosted the University of Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday, April 10. The Huskies swept all singles and doubles matches, downing the Friars, 7-0. In doubles action, Connecticut's Christine Burek and Liz Dibbs took the win at the No. 1 spot, defeating sophomores Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.), 8-6. The Providence freshman duo of Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Dara Hawkins Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) fell to Connecticut's Kelley LoRusso and Alli Campitiello, 8-3 at No. 2. Senior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) were defeated at the No. 3, 8-2 by Connecticut's Breann Cheung and Jess Porter. The Huskies swept in singles action as well. Burek topped Rissolo, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while LoRusso defeated Gilroy, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Schulz fell to Porter, 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Cheung won a commanding victory over Cusack, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Providence junior Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) was downed by Campitiello, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 5 and Connecticut's Petruzzi defeated Cusack, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. With the loss, the Friars fall to 3-8 on the spring, 7-9 overall. Next up, the Friars will host Sacred Heart on Sunday, April 15. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
