PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TENNIS COMPETES AT SIENA INVITATIONAL

The Providence College women's tennis squad competed in the Siena Invitational on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30. The Friars competed against Holy Cross and Siena College in tournament-style play held at Siena College in Siena, N.Y.
Senior Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) started Saturday's first-round action on a high note, defeating Siena's Lauren Moy (5-7, 6-2, 10-8) and Kristen Meahl of Holy Cross (6-2, 6-3) to advance to Sunday's A-Flight finals match. Lyons would fall to Sarah Mayer of Siena in the finals on Sunday, 6-0 and 6-3.
In the D-Flight bracket, senior Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) went 3-0. Kenaga defeated Chase Fitzsimmons of Holy Cross, 8-2, on Saturday, and Siena's Bridget Finnerty, 8-2, to set herself up for the finals match on Sunday. She would go on to defeat Dinka Kerin of Siena, 8-4, winning the D-Flight bracket.
The Friars also showed strength in doubles, where senior Kate Lyons and sophomore Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) would win the B-Flight Doubles bracket after defeating Wilke and Fitzsimmons of Holy Cross, 8-4, in the finals.
The Friars tennis team's next matchup is against Rhode Island on Wednesday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
